What can you learn from usability testing in the civic space?

Looking for a little usability? Not sure how to get it? Whitney Quesenbery and I gave a presentation at the annual conference of the Election Verification Network at the end of March 2012 in which we tried to demystify what usability professionals do and untangle how we learn about what voters do (and say), and how we get from there to better election design. Through a series of cases we worked on, we talked about what the original question was and what methods and techniques we used to get answers.

It was a rousing discussion. It’s great to be at the stage where we have so many stories to tell.
